Meet Angela

Angela Holmes - Psychotherapy Services in Ontario

Angela Holmes

Angela is a virtual AASECT Certified Sex Therapist based in Ontario, Canada. Interweaving her emotional intelligence, education, and evidence-based practice, her flexible therapeutic approach draws from trauma-informed, holistic, and lifespan development theories. As a kink-aware and sex-positive therapist, she centers and respects her clients' experiences.

With over 10 years of clinical experience, Angela began her career working in addictions, trauma recovery, and mental health. As her career evolved, Angela discovered her passion for sex therapy. This realization led her to pursue advanced training, ultimately earning her certification as an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist.

Angela loves supporting all clients to become their authentic sexual selves. Her interest has led her to have specialized qualifications in prostate cancer and sexual health, autism and sex, and out-of-control sexual behavior.

In her work with survivors of trauma, Angela believes symptoms shouldn’t be seen as something ‘wrong’ with the person. Instead, Angela views them as a reflection of the events and experiences that have taken place in the person’s life. Angela possesses training in the neurobiology of trauma and incorporates this awareness into the therapeutic process, helping clients gain a sense of control over their healing.

Many people feel ‘stuck’ in their mindset and way of experiencing sex. By navigating intimacy issues in line with her client's values and interests, Angela helps clients experience the intimacy they desire without shame.

Angela believes that all couples should reflect on their needs within their relationship(s), especially those in mixed neurotype or plural relationships. Angela supports couples in building safer and more intimate connections with one another, improving communication about emotions, strengthening trust, and overcoming resentments.

She believes that everyone has the innate capacity to build connection. Whether this connection starts with yourself, or you are seeking to improve connection in your relationships, Angela will be there every step of the way.

Angela’s therapeutic philosophy

  • Ethics are at the forefront of Angela’s work, and she doesn’t take the weight of her responsibility to her clients lightly. This is why she is dedicated to pursuing continued qualifications and education. She interweaves this seamlessly with her warm, but always professional, therapeutic approach.

  • We are all unique, and therefore the therapy you receive should be, too. Every client is cared for with tailored recommendations informed by a blend of theories and therapeutic interventions.

  • Angela’s clients are always received with a soft landing. She truly listens, keeping a thread of memory about each client throughout their sessions together. Angela is invested and involved, ensuring that each relationship with her clients is personal and reliable.

  • Angela explores different angles and perspectives with her clients, allowing them to talk about what they need to in sessions rather than forcing them on a rigid and fixed path.

  • Angela doesn’t have all of the answers. Instead, she believes that her clients know deeply and intuitively what the answers are. Her style involves an integration of encouragement and practicalness to help her clients find their way back home to their bodies and their core being.
