Your Questions Answered

  • It’s never too early to seek the support of a sex therapist. While many individuals and couples wait until challenges feel overwhelming, countless others express that they wish they had reached out sooner. Prioritizing your sexual well-being is an act of self-care, and there is no shame in wanting to deepen your understanding, strengthen your relationships, and feel more connected to yourself.

  • My fee is $225.00 for a 50-minute individual therapy session and $250.00 for a 50-minute couple therapy session.

  • My rate reflects the expertise, specialized training, and ongoing professional development I bring to my practice. It also factors in the time I invest in treatment planning and client support. My commitment is to provide high-quality, evidence-based care tailored to your unique needs.

  • Many Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) and extended health care plans provide coverage for services offered by a Registered Psychotherapist. However, coverage varies by provider. It is your responsibility to review your benefits plan or consult with your insurance provider to confirm eligibility for reimbursement.

  • I am committed to making therapy accessible and recognize the importance of financial flexibility. To support this, I offer two sliding-scale spots at a time, each available for up to 10 sessions. At this time, all sliding-scale spots are currently filled. Please check back for future availability.

  • At this time, I am not accepting new supervisees for clinical supervision and do not offer clinical consultation services. However, I do provide tailored workshops for therapists and clinics. If you are interested in discussing a workshop designed to meet your specific needs, please feel free to reach out.

  • I do not offer direct billing. Clients are responsible for making payments directly to Angela Holmes Psychotherapy at the time of their session. A receipt will be provided, which can be submitted to your insurance provider for reimbursement, if applicable.

  • Payment is due at the end of your therapy session and must be received within 24 hours of your appointment. I accept payment by e-transfer and all major credit cards.

  • I require a minimum of 24-hours notice for appointment cancellations or rescheduling. Cancellations made with less than 24-hours notice will be subject to the full session fee, except in cases of emergency. This policy ensures that I can effectively manage my schedule and offer availability to those in need of support.

  • My practice is open Monday to Thursday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. In some cases, earlier appointments may be accommodated upon request. If you require a session before 10:00 AM, please discuss this with me during your complimentary consultation. I am not available on Fridays or weekends.

  • I am a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist.

In Ontario, psychotherapy is a regulated health profession, meaning only therapists registered with the CRPO are authorized to practice. The CRPO ensures public protection by regulating the services provided by Registered Psychotherapists (RPs) and holding them accountable to professional standards and ethical guidelines. Being a CRPO registrant also allows my services to be covered by many insurance providers.

Additionally, I hold certification from the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT), an internationally recognized organization. AASECT certification requires extensive education, clinical supervision, and ongoing professional development to ensure the highest standard of care in sex therapy.

  • I exclusively provide virtual therapy and do not offer in-person sessions. If you prefer in-person therapy and would like a referral to a qualified sex therapist with similar credentials and expertise, I would be happy to provide recommendations.

  • Your first therapy session is a welcoming and supportive space where you will be met with warmth, understanding, and a nonjudgmental approach. This session is an opportunity for me to begin getting to know you—at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

I typically conduct an intake assessment, which involves exploring your history of relationships, mental health experiences, past strategies you’ve tried, your strengths, and any other information you feel is relevant to your therapy journey. My goal is to ensure you feel heard, supported, and at ease in sharing your experiences.

Together, we will also begin to establish your therapy goals. Depending on your comfort level, we may start discussing a treatment plan and approach tailored to your needs.

  • My approach to therapy is rooted in feminist, intersectional, systemic, and lifespan development theories, offering a holistic and personalized experience. I believe that healing and growth happen when we integrate both emotional and cognitive processing while also finding practical solutions to move forward. I strive to ensure that my therapeutic approach is trauma-informed.

I encourage my clients to keep an open mind, as I believe that everyone has the capacity to grow, learn, and expand. Together, we will explore new perspectives and different ways of showing up for yourself and in your relationships. My style is down-to-earth and conversational, making therapy feel like a natural and engaging dialogue rather than a formal process. Every client receives tailored recommendations and a creative approach that blends evidence-based theories and interventions.

  • The short answer:

Yes! I support individuals and couples with a wide range of concerns related to psychological, relational, emotional, and sexual well-being.

    The longer answer:

Sex therapy extends beyond just learning strategies for enhancing sexual health. It is a holistic approach that considers the many factors influencing your overall well-being and relationships. Depending on your goals and preferences, our work together may include topics that are not explicitly about sex but are deeply connected to your ability to cultivate a fulfilling and satisfying sex life and relational experience.

Some of the areas we may explore include assertiveness, rejection sensitivity, emotional regulation, overcoming people-pleasing tendencies, navigating neurodiverse and neurotypical relationship differences, family patterns, healing from trauma, body image, systemic influences.

Sex therapy is not just about addressing challenges—it is an opportunity for personal growth, deepening self-awareness, and meaningful transformation in all aspects of your life. Together, we will explore the areas that matter most to you, ensuring that your therapy experience is tailored to support your unique journey.

  • Finding the right therapist is an important part of a meaningful and effective therapy experience. If, at any point, either of us feels that our therapeutic relationship is not the right fit, we will discuss it openly and collaboratively.

If something is preventing us from achieving your therapeutic goals and it’s a matter of adjusting the therapeutic approach, I am typically flexible in making modifications to better support your needs. However, if the mismatch is due to a difference in personality or if your concerns fall outside of my scope of practice, I will do my best to provide you with up to three referrals for trusted therapists who specialize in your area of need.

I am committed to ensuring a warm transfer, meaning I will work with you and your new therapist to provide any necessary information that supports a seamless transition in care. My priority is ensuring that you receive the support that best aligns with your goals and well-being.

  • On a case-by-case basis, I offer homework and additional resources to support your progress between sessions. This is always discussed in advance as a potential therapeutic intervention, allowing you to decide whether it aligns with your preferences and goals.

While homework is never mandatory, there are cases where engaging in structured exercises plays a crucial role in the success of your therapy outcomes. If homework is part of your treatment plan, we will discuss it in detail to ensure it is both manageable and meaningful for you.
